HONOLULU, Hawaii — Hawaii capitalized on a 14-0 run in the second half to erase a seven-point deficit in the Big West Conference game Saturday night.
A three-pointer by UCI's Mike Wilder with 16:47 left gave the Anteaters a 42-35 lead, but UCI went scoreless over the next seven minutes as Hawaii took a 49-42 lead on a basket by Christian Standhardinger with 11:28 remaining.
UCI led 34-31 at halftime on the strength of 10 points from Daman Starring in the opening 20 minutes.
Standhardinger led Hawaii (15-9, 9-4 in conference) with 20 points, Hauns Brereton had 16 and Vander Joaquim added 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Warriors hit 11 of 12 free throws in the final 1:28.
Freshman point guard Alex Young led UCI (12-13, 6-6) with a career-high 20 points and added seven assists. Starring scored 18 points and Chris McNealy added 10.
The Anteaters play host to UC Riverside Wednesday night at 7 at the Bren Center, where UCI is 8-1 this season, including 5-0 in Big West games.

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Preston Wynne scored a game-high 24 points for the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.
Chris Gorman added 10 points for Vanguard (15-10, 4-6 in conference).
Arizona Christian is 16-6, 6-4.
UC Irvine def. Pacific
STOCKTON — The top-ranked Anteaters extended their winning streak to six with a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation sweep of No. 11 Pacific, 25-16, 25-15, 25-21, at the Alex G. Spanos Center Saturday evening.
All-American outside hitter Kevin Tillie paced UCI with 14 kills, three aces and a season-high 11 digs for UCI (10-3, 7-3 in the MPSF).
Opposite Zack La Cavera put away 10 kills, while setter Daniel Stork had 31 set assists and a match-high six blocks. Outside hitter Jeremy Dejno recorded seven kills and middle blocker Scott Kevorken had six kills with libero Michael Brinkley adding eight digs in the win.
