Boys’ Basketball: All five Newport-Mesa area teams in playoffs

At-large entries loomed large for Newport-Mesa area teams in the CIF Southern Section boys’ basketball playoffs, as each team will play in the postseason.

Corona del Mar High (18-9) leads the way with a No. 3 seed in Division 3-AA. Newport Harbor (13-13) is in Division 2-A, Estancia (7-18) is in Division 3-A, Costa Mesa (10-16) is in Division 4-AA and Sage Hill (10-15) is in Division 4-A as at-large entries.

CdM, which finished second in the Pacific Coast League, plays at home Wednesday in the first round against Rancho Alamitos, which is an at-large team that finished fifth in the six-team Garden Grove League.

Lawndale Leuzinger (19-7) is the top seed and finished second in the Bay League. La Verne Damien (20-6) is the No. 2 seed and finished tied for second in the Sierra League.

Newport Harbor will play at Riverside Patriot on Friday. Patriot finished third in the River Valley League. Newport Harbor was fifth in the six-team Sunset League.

Estancia plays at Tahquitz in Hemet on Wednesday. Tahquitz finished third in the Mountain Pass League. Estancia was fifth in the six-team Orange Coast League.

Costa Mesa, which finished fourth in the OCL, plays at Maranatha in Pasadena on Wednesday. Maranatha finished second in the Olympic League.

Sage Hill will play at Crossroads in Santa Monica on Wednesday. Crossroads finished second in the Delphic League.
