Anteater Invitational

NEWPORT BEACH — UC Irvine is second in the team standings after the first 36 holes of the 54-hole event at Big Canyon Country Club.

UCI is eight shots behind Arizona, which tops the 11-team field.

Senior Bryan Harris leads UCI in seventh place, at par 144. Freshman Allan Jun is ninth (145), Mickey Chan is 32nd (150), Michael Yang is 45th (153) and Jerry He is 49th at 154.

Playing as individuals, senior Shaun O’Meara is 45th (153) and freshman Zack Duan is 53rd (157).

The final 18 holes are scheduled for Tuesday.

MEN’S TENNIS

UC Irvine 6,

Missouri-Kansas City 1

IRVINE — Chris Kearney, Sam Gould and Stephen Stege won in singles and doubles to pace the host Anteaters in the nonconference match Sunday.

Kearney won at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-0, and teamed with Stege to claim an 8-7 triumph at No. 1 doubles.

Gould won, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2 singles and paired with Nick Northcott to post an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.

UCI is 2-4.

UMKC is 1-3.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

UC Irvine 6, Hawaii 1

IRVINE — Courtney Byron, Kristina Smith and Franziska Goettsching won in singles and doubles to lead the host Anteaters in the nonconference match Sunday.

Byron earned a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles and paired with Miranda Young for an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Smith posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles and Goettsching won at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-4. They combined on an 8-7 win at No. 2 doubles for the Anteaters (1-2).
