COSTA MESA — Annie Alvarado had a goal and an assist for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Thursday.

In the 18th minute, Karsten Sigband scored on a free kick from 30 yards out. It was her fourth goal of the week and her eighth of the season.

Miranda Stiver scored off on assist from Alvarado in the 36th minute.

Alvarado closed out the scoring after she drew a penalty and then converted the penalty kick in the 49th minute for CdM (14-3-4, 6-1-2 in league).

CdM plays for the league title Friday against University (5-2-2 in league). The game is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. at Las Lomas Park in Irvine. If there is rain, the game will be moved to Irvine High for a 3 p.m. start.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Juliette Singarella and Meg Crade scored two goals each for the Lightning in the Academy League game Thursday.

Madi Jabara and Alyssa Anderson added one goal each, Lauren Thunen had two assists and Tiffany Taylor finished with one assist for Sage Hill (13-7-3, 5-4-1 in league), which finished third in league.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Newport Harbor 55, Los Alamitos 54

LOS ALAMITOS — Brian Robbs scored 13 points and hit the game-winning three-pointer with nine seconds left for the Sailors in the Sunset League finale Thursday.

Nic Sargeant had 13 points and 10 rebounds, Kevin Rakestraw scored 12 points and Zach Wade had 10 points and five assists for Newport Harbor (13-13, 4-6 in league), which finished tied for fourth in league with Huntington Beach.

Corona del Mar 60, Woodbridge 47

IRVINE — Senior guard Max Stone finished with 16 points in the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League finale on Thursday.

The Sea Kings (18-9. 8-2 in league), ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division 3-AA playoffs, finished second in league for the second straight season.

CdM’s Kevin Fults contributed 12 points and Bo St. Geme had nine points.

The Sea Kings learn of their opening-round opponent in the CIF Southern Section Division 3-AA playoffs on Sunday, when the pairings are released.

Calvary Chapel 61, Estancia 54

SANTA ANA — Josh Mendoza scored 19 points for Estancia in its Orange Coast League finale Friday.

Matt Jarmacz had 15 points and six rebounds, Ben Beck added nine points, Chad Fackler had four points, four rebounds and six assists and Levi Stillman had three points and seven rebounds for Estancia.

Laguna Beach 62, Costa Mesa 33

LAGUNA BEACH — The visiting Mustangs fell behind early and couldn’t recover in dropping their regular-season finale in the 70th all-time meeting between the teams.

Laguna Beach took a 15-4 lead after one quarter and Costa Mesa could get no closer than nine points the rest of the way. The Breakers used a 15-0 run in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

The Mustangs, who fell to 5-5 in league and 10-16 overall, played without starting guard Sean Comer in the second half. The junior rolled his ankle in the second quarter and finished with four points.

Senior guard Markiece Traylor scored 10 points, junior guard Kyle Hefner had eight points and senior guard Andrew Wright added seven points.

“Laguna is a really, really good team, and they showed that tonight,” Costa Mesa Coach Dan Krikorian said. “We just didn’t make the plays we needed to and the game got away from us early.”

The outcome left Costa Mesa tied for third place with Calvary Chapel in the league standings. Krikorian said that he has already petitioned the CIF Sothern Section office for consideration for an at-large berth to the playoffs, which start next week.

Junior guard Alec Wulff scored 14 of his game-high 16 points in the second half for Laguna which leads the all-time series with the Mustangs, 49-21.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Costa Mesa 20, Bolsa Grande 3

COSTA MESA — Aubry Hill had seven goals and three assists for the Mustangs in the nonleague regular-season finale Thursday at Costa Mesa High.

Ashley Tfaye and Lauren Smith each had three goals and two assists, and Tfaye had five saves in goal. Kellie Thorsness, Katurah Telles and Melissa Folkerts each scored twice for Mesa, and Devon Christensen also scored.

Kaitlyn Hill had seven saves and two steals for Costa Mesa (18-10). The Mustangs now await Sunday’s release of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoff brackets.

Woodbridge 67, Corona del Mar 37

IRVINE — Maria King and Krista Anderson had 10 points apiece in the Sea Kings in a Pacific Coast League game on Thursday.

CdM (9-17, 1-9 in league) looks for an at-large entry into the CIF Southern Section Division 3-AA playoffs. The playoff pairings are released on Sunday.
