Locals ready to sign

Share

Today some local high school seniors will get to show off the school colors they will wear come next fall in college.

The fashion trend comes every year on National Signing Day, the first day seniors in football, boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ water polo, boys’ and girls’ track and field, and boys’ and girls’ cross country can sign a letter of intent with a school.

Corona del Mar, Newport Harbor, Costa Mesa and Estancia will each have athletes signing on their respective campuses.

Newport Harbor defensive lineman JB Salem headlines the group. The 6-foot-4, 265-pound Salem said he will sign with Stanford’s football program in a ceremony Wednesday morning at Newport Harbor.

Corona del Mar has the most players signing today in the area with five. Brian Ford is expected to sign with the UC Davis men’s soccer program, Chase Watson and Emery Molnar with USC men’s water polo, Lindsey Luke with Wake Forest women’s soccer, and Peter Markel with University of British Columbia football. Trevor Russell and Michael Delahanty are set to sign with UC Berkeley’s men’s crew.

Estancia’s Jackie Freiberger and Costa Mesa’s Sami Feinstein said they are both signing with the Cal State Dominguez Hills women’s soccer program.

CdM is having a ceremony today 12:45 p.m. in the quad to honor the handful of seniors signing. Some schools, like Costa Mesa, are having smaller get-togethers.

Costa Mesa is having something for Feinstein at 1:30 p.m. in the large gym. Estancia will have an event for Freiberger in the morning in its gym.
