High School Roundup: Newport earns four pins in win

NEWPORT BEACH — Seniors David Wadleigh III (126 pounds) and Mason Murphy (170) and juniors Andrew Craft (145) and James Pilz (160) recorded pins for the Sailors in the Sunset League dual match Thursday.

Seniors Virgilio Martinez (132) and Larson Harley (152) won by decision, while senior Conner Moore (195) and junior Roberto Rivera (220) won by forfeit for Newport Harbor (10-3, 1-2 in league).

Murphy wrestles in the Five Counties tournament Friday at Fountain Valley High.

CORONA DEL MAR — Ioanna Haralabidis scored four goals for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Thursday at CdM.

Stephania Haralabidis, Marina Coskinas and Cassidy Papa added two goals each for CdM (13-3, 5-0 in league). Genevieve Weed, Morgan Stewart, Maddie Musselman, Eliza Britt and Bridget Storm also scored.

CdM, ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, plays at Beckman at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

LAKE ELSINORE — Senior Ilene Umansky scored seven goals for the Eagles in the nonleague game Thursday at Lakewood High.

Danielle Ridge and Nikkie Blinn each scored five goals for Estancia (12-9). Goalie Alexis Paul made five saves.

The Eagles play at Savanna in another nonleague match Tuesday.

Costa Mesa 53, Calvary Chapel 34

SANTA ANA — Molly Settles scored 16 points to lead the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League game Thursday.

Alexa Loredo added 13 points for Costa Mesa (12-7, 3-1 in league).

The Mustangs play host to Laguna Beach Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Estancia 56, Saddleback 27

COSTA MESA — Junior shooting guard Celia Duran made four three-pointers and finished with 12 points and six assists on Thursday, helping the Eagles improve to 4-0 in Orange Coast League play.

Wendy Martinez had six points for Estancia, which is 13-6 overall.

The Eagles hit 10 threes, accounting for more than half of the team’s points.

Estancia plays at Calvary Chapel Tuesday at 7 p.m.

COSTA MESA — Birkley Sigband scored the tying goal in the 61st minute for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match at Jim Scott Stadium.

CdM (10-2-4, 2-0-2 in league) plays against Beckman at Harvard Park Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

COSTA MESA — The Eagles outshot Saddleback, 12-4, but again settled for the tie in the Orange Coast League game Thursday at Estancia.

Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Leahy made three saves for Estancia (5-2-9, 1-0-3 in league). Coach Jessica Perry also credited the Eagles’ defensive back line of Shantel Romero, Marlene Calderon, Brandi White and Sarah Leahy.

Estancia plays host to Calvary Chapel at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
