Corona del Mar 59, Irvine 54

IRVINE — Senior guard Blake Grable scored nine of his 22 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Sea Kings rally for a win in their Pacific Coast League opener on Tuesday.

Max Stone made four three-pointers and finished with 17 points for CdM.

The Sea Kings (11-7, 1-0 in league), ranked No. 6 in the CIF Southern Section Division 3-AA poll, play at Beckman on Friday at 7 p.m.

IRVINE — Sophomore forward Tyler Hague scored 20 points for the Lightning in their Academy League opener Tuesday.

Senior guard Darren Chen had 12 points and sophomore guard Krishan Tarsadia added nine points for Sage Hill (SH, 8-8, 1-0 in league).

IRVINE — Maggie Danner had 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Lightning in their Academy League opener Tuesday.

Shelby Bolen had eight points, 14 rebounds and six assists and Claire Goul had five points and five steals for Sage Hill (4-5, 1-0 in league).

IRVINE — Freshman forward Natalia Bruening produced 12 points and 11 rebounds in the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League opener on Tuesday.

Katie Scott finished with 10 points and six rebounds for CdM (7-9, 0-1 in league).

Kelly Tam had eight points and two three-pointers.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Freshman Jasmyn Winters scored 11 points for the Sailors in the Sunset League game Tuesday.

Sophomore Jordan Perry had four points for Newport Harbor (4-12, 0-2 in league).

NEWPORT COAST — Kavi Sakraney scored two goals for the Lightning in their Academy League opener Tuesday.

Milad Rohani and Dakshin Jandhyala also scored, and Will Burns had two assists for Sage Hill (3-4, 1-0 in league. Anthony Gill and Nikolai Sadeghi also stood out with their midfield play.

IRVINE — Goalie Kekai Whitford made 11 saves for the Lightning in their Academy League opener Tuesday.

Sage Hill is 8-3-2, 0-1 in league.

CORONA DEL MAR —Stephania Haralabidis had five goals, four steals and one assist for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Tuesday.

Marina Coskinas added three goals and Genevieve Weed scored two goals for CdM (7-2, 2-0 in league), ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division 1.

Ioanna Haralabidis (one goal, one steal), Morgan Stewart (four assists, two steals), Maddie Musselman (one goal, two steals), Grace Morgan (one goal, three steals), Cassidy Papa (one goal, four assists), Shannon Frome (one goal, two assists) and goalie Erica Weed (two saves) also contributed for the Sea Kings, who were without Ally McCormick (sick).

Falcon tournament

ORANGE — Estancia High split its first two pool-play games Monday, losing to Buena Park, 9-2, before defeating Segerstrom, 8-5, at Orange High.

Senior Ilene Umansky had eight goals against Segerstrom. Goalie Alexis Paul made a combined 13 saves in the two games.

Estancia (8-5) plays host to Chino Hills in a nonleague game Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.

Arroyo Grande tournament

ARROYO GRANDE — Costa Mesa High placed seventh, winning the consolation final over the weekend at Arroyo Grande High.

The Mustangs defeated Thousand Oaks, 11-4, on Friday before losing to eventual champion Arroyo Grande by the same score. Mesa rebounded for three wins Saturday, including an 11-4 win over Louisville and a 13-12 triumph over Atascadero. They then beat Righetti, 10-7, in the consolation final.

Kellie Thorsness had 21 goals in the tournament for Mesa. Aubry Hill had 12 goals and drew 11 exclusions and her sister, Kaitlyn, had 42 saves in goal.

Ashley Tfaye scored the game-winning goal with 38 seconds left against Atascadero. Lauren Smith had 11 goals and 12 steals.

Costa Mesa (11-5) plays host to Laguna Beach at 3 p.m. Wednesday in its Orange Coast League opener.
