Laguna 10U co-ed team takes third at tourney

The Laguna Beach Water Polo Club’s 10U coed team captured third place last weekend at the fifth annual Evan Cousineau Memorial Cup.

The William Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine hosted the tournament, which started Saturday and concluded Sunday.

Laguna opened the tournament Saturday and scored a 12-10 victory over Riverside Water Polo. On Sunday morning, they scored a two-goal win, 10-8, against OC Water Polo. Following a 21-10 loss to Huntington Beach Vanguard Aquatics, their only loss of the tournament, Laguna rallied back to defeat Foothill Red, 11-10. The win secured third-place in the 10U Coed Platinum division.

Laguna, coached by Albie Beeler, Bryan Buhagiar and Rob Capobianco, medaled in their first tournament appearance of the season.

The 10U coed team’s next tournament appearance is the 53rd annual Southern Pacific Assn. Zone Age Group Championships Nov. 8-9 in south Orange County.

Representing the Laguna 10U coed team at the Evan Cousineau Memorial Cup were: Sai Bassett, Jessi Beeler, Cole Curtis, Didi Evans, Nate Evans, Gabe Lewis-Keister, Myha Pinto, Joey Capobianco, Kate Storke and Rebecca Storke.

Laguna Beach athletes earned top five finishes at two National Scholastic Surfing Assn. Southwest Conference competitions held last weekend.
