Men’s Golf: Chin named to team

UC Irvine senior John Chin has been named to the Division I PING All-West Region team for the third straight year by the Golf Coaches Assn. of America.

Chin earned his third consecutive Big West Conference Golfer of the Year award this season after leading UCI with a 70.05 average and 11 top-10 finishes (eight top-5s). He was first in four tourneys, including winning his second Big West individual title.

UCI won its sixth Big Westchampionship by 17 shots May 3-4 at Mission Viejo Country Club. The Anteaters advanced to NCAA regional play for the ninth time in the past 10 years. UCI placed eighthin the NCAA Southwest Regional at Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee, Calif., and Chin finished ninth.

He currently ranks No. 1 in the Golfstat Cup and is second in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings.

Chin will compete for the United States in the Palmer Cup at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Portrush, Northern Ireland, June 24-26.
