Costa Rican soccer star Whayne Wilson, May 18

Costa Rica's Whayne Wilson is stopped in a scoring attempt by Trinidad and Tobago's goalie Clayton Ince in their World Cup Qualifier at the Hasely Crawford National Stadium, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, in March 2005. Wilson died on Wednesday, May 18, 2005 of injuries from a car crash. He was 29 and driving to see his family when his car hit a truck on the highway connecting San Jose to the Caribbean coastline. He played striker for the Brujas and was picked for the Costa Rican national side to play in the final phase of North and Central America and Caribbean  qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals in Germany.
