Hunger Walk adds participants
The list of congregations and groups participating in Sunday’s 25th Annual Newport-Mesa-Irvine Interfaith Council CROP Hunger Walk is growing, according to chairman Steve Goetz.
The list includes Irvine United Congregational Church, Christ Church by the Sea, University United Methodist Church, Fairview Community Church, St. Mark Presbyterian Church, University Synagogue, Harbor Christian Church, Islamic Education Center of Orange County, Mesa Verde United Methodist Church, Newport Center United Methodist Church, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Temple Bat Yahm, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Buddhist Center — RKINA, Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’i, First Church of Christ Scientist (Newport Beach), First United Methodist Church of Costa Mesa, First Drops, Orange Coast College students, StandUp For Kids, Society of Friends (Irvine), Word Youth Ministry, UNICEF students of UC Irvine, coach Steve Spencer’s OCC Men’s Basketball team, Maria Traver’s OCC Puente Club and volunteers from the OCC Culinary Arts program.
Clergy who will be present to give a blessing to walkers include Father Kerry Beaulieu, pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels, Imam Sayed Moustafa Al-Qazwini of the Islamic Education Center and the Rev. Dr. Paul Tellstrom of Irvine United Congregational Church.
“All, youth, families and groups, are welcome to walk on Sunday,” states Goetz. Registration begins at 1 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels, 2046 Mar Vista, Newport Beach, and the walk steps off at 1:30 p.m.
