Mailbag: Rohrabacher is right — earth is cooling
Re. “Climate change talk shows ignorance,” (Mailbag, Aug. 21): In response to Jamie Dow’s piece regarding U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher’s statement that global warming is a “fraud,” let me set the record straight.
I’ve read that temperatures aren’t rising but falling. In fact, since the early 1990s, we’ve had global cooling. The facts on this are so embarrassing that the global-warming advocates had to change the name to “climate change.”
I’ve read that hurricanes are actually lessening in number, not getting worse. Only three major hurricanes have made landfall so far during President Obama’s presidency. Grover Cleveland, who was president between 1885 and 1889, saw 26 major hurricanes during his presidency — and that was before global warming was invented.
I’ve read that we were scheduled to see an enormous melting of polar ice by now, but even the ice won’t co-operate. The U.S. Navy forecasts twice as much mid-September ice this year as it measured in 2012.
Finally, NASA engineer Burt Rutan has compiled a comprehensive report that dispels all of the lies that the so-called scientists have manufactured to reinforce the global-warming fear that causes naive investors and the government to throw money at a problem that doesn’t exist.
Conservatives believe that we should conserve our resources not because of some manufactured crisis but because it is the right thing to do.
Conservatives put solar panels on their houses and drive cars like the Tesla not because of some fear of global warming but because of the cool advancement in technologies.

Reform council perks
Tustin residents elected to reclassify its council members as uncompensated volunteers, a move of fiscal responsibility.
Costa Mesa council members have whined about the size of their salaries.
If the question of their total compensation arises, they conveniently tune up the old violins for a rendition of “I don’t know why I’m even doing this” and fail to mention that they also receive medical and retirement benefits. Yes, medical and retirement — for part-time jobs.
How pathetic to consider our own part-time council is actually contributing to the biggest problem plaguing Costa Mesa, city pensions. Tell me how this works in the private sector.
