This post has been corrected, as noted below.

The 17-year-old driver of a van involved in a collision that killed a motorcyclist over the weekend did not have a driver’s license or learner’s permit, police said Tuesday.

Costa Mesa police and fire departments responded to the collision at 3151 Harbor Blvd. at 9:33 p.m. Saturday.

The motorcyclist killed in the collision was identified as Gregory McNally, a 30-year-old Costa Mesa resident, according to the Orange County coroner’s office.

The 17-year-old Costa Mesa girl driving the van suffered injuries and was taken to a local hospital, according to police.

She was accompanied by her mother at the time of the accident, and the two were the only people in the van at the time of the crash, according to Costa Mesa police Lt. Greg Scott.

No citations or arrests were made at the scene, Scott said.

The collision is under investigation. Drugs, alcohol or speeding do not appear to be factors in the crash, Scott said.

Police ask that witnesses call CMPD traffic investigator Darren Wood at (714) 754-5264.

[For the record, 10:30 a.m. July 23: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said a 19-year-old Costa Mesa man suffered injuries. In fact, a 17-year-old girl was driving the van and was accompanied by her mother.]
