Community & Clubs: Another batch for the Hall of Fame

Share

You are invited to celebrate the induction of some of Newport-Mesa’s finest community volunteers into the Daily Pilot Community & Clubs Hall of Fame at a noon luncheon June 14 at American Legion Newport Harbor Post 291 in Newport Beach.

Because it is Flag Day, post Commander Jess Lawson says, the legion hall will be draped in American flags, and the post’s color guard will present the colors to the attendees. Returning for his third year as master of ceremonies will be Orange County Supervisor John Moorlach.

Being honored as of Monday with their induction into the Hall of Fame are Dean Bottorf, sponsored by the Exchange Club of Newport Harbor; Dick Dickson, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Newport-Balboa; Joanne Johnston, sponsored by the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa; Steve Grant, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Costa Mesa; Sue Seager, sponsored by the Newport Harbor Costa Mesa Lions Club; Bill Simons, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Newport Beach/Corona del Mar; and Norm Witt, sponsored by the Newport-Irvine Rotary Club. Several additional nominations of community volunteers are expected yet this week.

Faith Round Table Discussion

The public is invited to the June 12 Newport-Mesa-Irvine Interfaith Council Luncheon for a round table discussion on “How do you reconcile your belief differences with your faith tradition?” The noon luncheon will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 3233 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar.

Sitting at the round tables will be Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Unitarian-Baha’is and other faiths’ members discussing the topic from their perspective.

“Round table discussions are always interesting,” according to the Rev. Julie Elkins, president of the interfaith council and minister at First United Methodist Church of Costa Mesa. RSVP your attendance by Monday to nmiinterfaith@aol.com. Lunch is $10 with a reservation, or $12 without a reservation.
