Community & Clubs: Starting the long journey of caregiving
Hoag Hospital and the Alzheimer’s Family Services Center are sponsoring a spirituality conference on “Navigating the Journey of Caregiving” on March 28.
The day begins with registration and a hot breakfast from 7:15 to 7:45 a.m., with the program following from 7:45 a.m. to noon. The event will be held at the Hoag Hospital Conference Center, One Hoag Drive, Newport Beach.

OCC senior day barbecue
Members of the Kiwanis Club of Costa Mesa served nearly 5,000 hot dogs for visiting high school seniors at Orange Coast College on Tuesday. This was the primary vehicle for recruiting new students to the college and is one of the most important days of the year, according to member Jeff Dimsdale.

Rotarian honored for service
Newport Beach Sunrise Rotarian Patricia Bintliff was recognized for her work with the homeless and at-risk in our community with Rotary’s highest honor for humanitarian service during the District 5320 assembly on March 1 at Chapman University.
In making the presentation, District 5320 Gov. Rae Shirer noted that Bintliff is a certified clinical supervisor who has worked in Orange and Los Angeles counties to advocate for the rights of disabled and homeless who suffer from mental illness, substance abuse and poverty.
Bintliff has worked for the Newport Beach Sunrise Rotary Club on vocational service projects and is the liaison between the club and Harbor Justice Center. She also has served as the community outreach coordinator, trainer and secretary for the Sober Living Network and is recognized statewide as an expert in her field.
Currently, Bintliff is making progress to become an attorney to fight for the rights of disabled people, who are often left to live on the streets, feeling unloved and alone. In accepting her award, she thanked the Rotary club for providing support for her work and for its willingness to embrace the entire community through these programs.
