Community & Clubs: A tuneful Christmas celebration

Share

Christmas has inspired great music from many of the world’s great composers. So, as angels heralded the first Christmas, the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant will present a program of great selections performed by the choir, the Da Capo Orchestra, soloists, piano and organ beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday. Bach’s Third Orchestral Suite opens the program and will be followed by Vivaldi’s Gloria in Excelsis Deo, a contemporary cantata and beloved carols — music that will lift your heart with the joy and spirit of Christmas.

The Presbyterian Church of the Covenant is located at 2850 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa, one half mile south of the Fairview exchange with the 405 Freeway and just north of Costa Mesa High School. There is no charge to attend, but a freewill offering will be taken to offset the cost of the performance. Call (714) 557-3340 for more information.

Rotary, Salvation Army and Working Wardrobes

“What an incredible honor it has been for me to head up the vocational service project for the Newport Beach Sunrise Rotary Club involving the women of the Salvation Army and Working Wardrobes,” states Patricia Bintliff. “This project consisted of a series of six workshops designed to assist the women of the Salvation Army to get J-O-B-S! The topics of the workshops were expectations and self-assessment transferable skills; smart goals and elevator speeches; how to fill out master job applications; how to build a powerful resume; how to develop and build skills for the job interview; and developing strategies for how to land a job.”

The ladies also were outfitted with appropriate business attire and pampered by Working Wardrobes by getting their hair and makeup done.

Lastly, at a beautiful graduation celebration, the Rotary Club gave the ladies elegant portfolios, Cross pens, dictionaries and a plaque, and Working Wardrobes prepared handsome certificates of completion for each of the graduates.

Welcome to the World of Service Clubs — Marvin MaGee, who joined the Newport Beach Sunrise Rotary Club and was sponsored by Reniero Francisco.
