Community & Clubs: Daily Pilot editors to induct Hall of Famers

Nine Newport-Mesa citizens who are active in local community service will be inducted into the Daily Pilot Community & Clubs Hall of Fame at the fourth annual Hall of Fame luncheon noon Friday at the American Legion Newport Harbor Post 291.

Being inducted are John Kruse, Exchange Club of Newport Harbor; Carol Proctor, Harbor Mesa Lions Club; Joseph Panarisi, Kiwanis Club of Costa Mesa; Laura Dietz, Rotary Club of Newport Beach Sunrise; Roger Gilbert, Rotary Club of Newport-Balboa; Sanjay Dalal, Rotary Club of Newport Irvine; Irvian Kanareck, Laurel House; Rich Kapko, Costa Mesa United; and Carol Cowden, Assistance League of Newport Harbor.

Orange County Supervisor John Moorlach will serve as the master of ceremonies while the induction of honorees will be made by myself, Daily Pilot Editor John Canalis and City Editor Jamie Rowe.

Assistance League announces new officers

The Assistance League of Newport-Mesa announces its 2012-13 leadership.

Judith Longyear has been elected president. Serving on the chapter board of directors with Longyear are Kathy Youngman, president-elect; Jill Money, treasurer; Linda Krolop-Silverstein, secretary; Lori Williams, thrift; Carol Cowden and Denise Beltsos, consignment; Anne Wong, dental center; Peggy McKennon, community outreach; Jo Corbett, membership; Laura Lee Schubert, special events; Ann Marie Alford, human resources; Karen Obuljen, Kids on the Block; Kathy Elieff and Elizabeth Spain, Operation School Bell; Lulu Wilson, education; Marie-France Lefebvre, public relations; Tracy Halphide, Assisteens Auxiliary coordinator; Nicky Dunn, Las Reinas Auxiliary chairwoman; Mindy Smith, Virginia Castle Auxiliary chairwoman; and Susan Lautenback and Diana Thomas, La Marisa Auxiliary chairwomen.

Annually, Assistance league members, involved in 130 chapters across the U.S., return more than $37.7 million to local communities and assist 1.4 million people.
