Community & Clubs: Plenty of fish fried for charity

Job’s Daughters announces the reopening of its bethel in Newport Beach. The public is invited to attend the inaugural installation of officers at 5 p.m. April 14 at the Seafaring Masonic Building, 1401 15th St. Dress is formal, specifically dresses for the women and ties for the men. Light refreshments will be served following the installation.

Alumni of Job’s Daughters are encouraged to make contact with the new bethel.

According to the announcement, “Job’s Daughters is an international sorority for young women ages 9 to 19. Job’s Daughters teaches young ladies important skills for life, such as leadership, public speaking, organization, teamwork and self-reliance. 2012 Fish Fry allocations

The Costa Mesa Newport Harbor Lions Club held its annual fish fry allocation dinner March 19, dispersing $28,000-plus raised from the 2012 fish fry to a variety of community groups and Lions Club projects, according to club president Mike Scheafer.

Receiving support were the Costa Mesa Historical Society, the Lions District 4-L4 Sight & Hearing Foundation, the Boys & Girls Club of the Harbor Area and its Westside branch, Newport Harbor High School Culinary Arts, Estancia High School baseball, golf and basketball, Costa Mesa High School baseball and golf, Costa Mesa American Little League, Youth Employment Service, Blind Children’s Learning Center, Orange County Model Engineers, Australian Student Exchange, Sea Scouts, Newport-Mesa Schools Foundation, PADRE Foundation, Save Our Youth, Someone Cares Soup Kitchen, Friends of the Costa Mesa Libraries, Les Miller Scholarships, Costa Mesa Community Run, Ocean View Little League, Newport Harbor Baseball, Project Cuddle, Calvary Football, Childs-pace, Santa Letters, Cal State youth sports, Costa Mesa Police Officers’ Assn., Project Independence, Costa Mesa Middle School basketball, Lions Clubs International Foundation and Costa Mesa 60th Anniversary Planning Committee.

Spring Sing & Pick

The public is invited to join the Oasis Sing & Pick Hootenanny Group from 2 to 3:30 p.m. May 10. Group founder Mac MacAdam says bring your guitar, ukulele, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, bass or other instrument, or just come to sing along. The music and words will be displayed on a big screen. In addition to MacAdam, who plays the guitar, the group consists of Donna Ewing, co-facilitator, guitar and fiddle; Hank Boss, mandolin, fiddle and bones; Paul Ingvaldsen, guitar; Lee Jones, guitar; Steve Jones, bass; Jim Kaiser, guitar; Charles Livingston, guitar; John McDonald, banjo; Nada Purkarevic, ukulele; J.
