Mailbag: Chamber welcomes Rosansky to interim post

Last week, I announced to members the retirement of Richard Luehrs as president and chief executive of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce. Today, I am announcing that the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has appointed Steve Rosansky as interim president and CEO.

Rosansky assumed this volunteer position Wednesday and will continue in this role until the appointment of a permanent president and CEO that is expected within six months. Rosansky’s appointment was the board’s decision after careful consideration of how best to proceed at this critical time in the chamber’s history.

Rosansky is no stranger to the Newport Beach business community. Many of you know him as a former mayor and city councilman. Steve represented District 2 for nine years on the council, with one term as mayor from 2006-07. He and his wife, Gina, have lived in Newport Beach since 1985.

In 1987 he started his own real estate company that is now called Newport West and was a small business owner for many years until that business was recently sold. Steve is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business, with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in economics, holds a Juris Doctorate degree from the UCLA School of Law, and is a member of the California State Bar Assn.

Please join me and the Board of Directors in welcoming Steve to the chamber as we look forward to his leadership through this transitional period for the Newport Chamber of Commerce.

Lido Village market

Re. “A market in search of customers,” (Jan. 18): Kathy Shaw for mayor! If anyone can revitalize the Sunday Lido Village Farmer’s Market, Kathy is the one. She is so enthusiastic and works so hard to make a great mix of wonderful vendors who have style and tremendous creativity.

I was a customer and a one-time vendor at the former Pelican Courtyard events on Tustin Avenue in Newport Beach and looked forward to each of her artisan markets because each time, she had new vendors who wanted an opportunity to get their talents out to the public in a lovely setting.

She made it a little jewel and the city should applaud her participation in this new endeavor, which no doubt will be a success. She has energy, personality, a list of contacts that would make everyone happy, and she is determined. This surely will revive a fun Sunday morning of shopping with terrific gourmet food marketeers as well as artisans. How fun is that?
