Shirley W. Palley March 9, 1928 - February 23, 2014

Shirley Palley, of Irvine, California, passed away peacefully in the loving presence of her family after a brief illness on February 23, 2014.

Shirley was born in Philadelphia on March 9, 1928 and grew up in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She graduated from Douglass College in New Jersey, and married her husband of 62 years, Jerry Palley.

After moving West, they settled in Irvine, where Jerry was a UCI professor. Shirley raised four sons, and worked as a school teacher and Head Start administrator in Santa Ana.

For two decades, she organized Irvine Democratic Party campaign offices, and was the party’s candidate for the 70th California Assembly District in 1996, getting more than 45,000 votes.

Shirley loved politics, travel, cooking, reading, gardening and spending time with her family. She will be fondly remembered for her liveliness, spunk, joy for life and caring for family and friends.

Her parents, Katie and Isaac Wilson, and her brother Abe Wilson, passed away before her. She is survived by Jerry, her sons David, Brant, Mark and Dan, her seven grandchildren Dana Wall, Marta, Dylan, Evan and Nick Palley, and Amanda and Gabriel Reynoso-Palley, and her nieces Chana and
Raissa Wilson.

In keeping with Jewish tradition, Shirley was buried on February 25 at Pacific View Mortuary in Corona Del Mar.
