Dorothy Hutchison Osterkamp

Dorothy Hutchison Osterkamp, a resident of Newport Beach for over 50 years, passed away peacefully in her sleep March 9, 2013 in Spokane WA. She was born August 31, 1923 in St. Louis MO, the second daughter of Edward & Dorothy (Cannon) Klimas.

Dottie met Frank Hutchison of Houston, TX when he was assigned to the air field in St. Louis for flight training in 1942, and they were married following the war. They relocated to Brawley CA in 1950 where Frank managed the feed mill there, then to Pasadena in 1953 & finally to Balboa in 1958 where they raised their 3 children.

Following their divorce in 1970, Dottie worked at a variety of careers, and became a talented floral designer, one of her many passions.

In 1994, Dottie married John Osterkamp of Brawley/Newport Beach and they lived happily on Lido Island until his death in 2009. She moved to assisted living in Spokane in her final years.

Dottie had many interests - she was an avid genealogist in her early years and was a member of the Col. William Cabell chapter of the DAR. She loved to travel, visiting Alaska, Europe & Mexico and later with John, Africa, the Galapagos, Ireland, Ecuador, Hawaii, China and trips to
Catalina & Cabo aboard John’s boat. Dottie collected antiques, and she had a passion for gardening, rummy tile and environmental/wildlife causes. Her made-from-scratch salad dressing was unequaled.

Dottie is survived by her children Robyn (Dave)Garfoot of WI., Young Hutchison of Newport Beach, Hunter (Dave) Severt of WA, & her grandchildren Bryan Garfoot, Dalton & Lindsay Hutchison, and Dan(Jessica), Laurel and Sean Severt. She is also survived by her step- children Sue(Bill)Brandt, Judy(Sean)Glynn-Farrell, Nancy Clancy, John(Terre)Osterkamp & Mark(Marcy) Osterkamp and their families. She is further survived by her 3 nephews and their families.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Marjorie & her husband John.

We’ll miss you, Mom, & we love you so, so, so.

A celebration of Dottie’s life will take place in Newport Beach at a later date.
