George Horace Morales

On December 28, 2010, George Horace Morales peacefully left this earth, happy with his well-lived life. His journey began October 5, 1919 in Ponce, Puerto Rico followed shortly by a move to New York City. He was a celebrated athlete, winning the coveted “Silver Skates” speed skating competition at Madison Square Gardens, a spot on the US Olympic team, a number of swing dancing competitions, and worked as a warm-up pitcher for the New York Giants. George studied business at Columbia University. He joined the Navy when the war escalated, and was assigned to the OSS, serving as a spy in Brazil and Mozambique. In 2003, he wrote a book detailing his adventures called Mozambique Mystique. While training in Washington DC, George met his future wife Barbara - a Navy Wave from Pasadena stationed there. They were married in 1948 and shared 53 years of wedded bliss. George and Barbara built their home in Pasadena, raising 3 children; Steve, Elisa and Corrie. George loved golf, sailing, swing dancing, and the Angels, all of which he continued to enjoy until late in his life. George was always the life of the party; he loved life and shared his great spirit – whenever asked how he was, he’d answer “It’s the best day of my life.” He leaves behind his son Steve (Debbie), son in law Art Levine, and daughter Corrie Rausch (Steve) along with grandchildren; Robbie, Andy, and KC Morales, Sam and Suzannah Levine and Brittany and Cameron Rausch, great grandchildren; Abigail and Daniel Morales and Carson Wilt. George was predeceased by his daughter Elisa (1992) and wife Barbara (1999). Services are planned for 10:00 am Saturday January 15, 2011 at St John Vianney Chapel on Balboa Island.
