Police arrest man suspected of peeping

Officers arrested a 45-year-old Newport Coast man on Christmas night after they found him peering into the window of a home near Talbert Regional Park, according to authorities.

A woman called police about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when she saw the man jump a fence to get into her backyard in the 1800 block of Parkcrest Drive near Costa Mesa’s city limits, Costa Mesa police Sgt. Vic Bakkila said.

When officers responded, they detained a man who was standing in front of a nearby home and looking inside, Bakkila said.

The woman identified the detainee as the person she’d seen in her backyard and asked that police arrest him.

Police booked the suspect, who Bakkila declined to identify, on suspicion of peeping into an inhabited dwelling.
