Retired Costa Mesa City Manager Allan Roeder is being considered for an interim city management position in Garden Grove.

Roeder, who retired in 2011, is expected to replace City Manager Matthew Fertal, who will be resigning Dec. 31. Fertal has had the position since 2004.

The Garden Grove City Council on Tuesday will consider appointing Roeder. Roeder, a Garden Grove native and Rancho Alamitos High School alumnus, would begin Jan. 1 and work up to June 30.

His hourly rate would be $120, and he would not be eligible for benefits. The city will conduct a nationwide search for Fertal’s permanent replacement.

“I’m humbled by the faith and confidence of the Garden Grove City Council for this wonderful opportunity to do the absolute best job I can for the city and the community I grew up in,” Roeder said in a prepared statement last week.

Fertal unexpectedly announced his resignation in November amid allegations of nepotism and other concerns.
