Share

Mike Scheafer was appointed by the Costa Mesa Sanitary District’s board of directors this week to serve as its president for the next two years.

Scheafer, who won reelection to his seat in November, was first elected to the five-member board in 2010. He also served in 1993 and 1994 to fill a vacancy.

The longtime Costa Mesa resident has served on the City Council and senior center board of directors. Scheafer is on the Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lions Club board and organizes its annual fish fry and carnival each summer.

Scheafer, who had been board vice president, replaces James Ferryman in the president’s role.

Director Art Perry was chosen vice president, and Arlene Schafer becomes assistant secretary.

The sanitary district serves Costa Mesa and portions of Newport Beach and unincorporated county areas.
