Biz News: Sushi restaurant Temakira opens in Costa Mesa

A sushi “hand roll” restaurant has opened in Costa Mesa.

Temakira, 259 E. 17th St., specializes in temaki, a type of sushi eaten by hand that is wrapped in seaweed and made into a cone shape, according to a news release.

The restaurant combines styles found in Brazil and Japan. It also serves gyoza, edamame, sake and a variety of beers.

Temakira is owned by Hugo Komatsu and Natsuko Sonoguchi-Travioli, both formerly of the investment management firm Pimco, which is headquartered in Newport Beach, and chef Le-John Pai.

Chocolate shops to pop up in Costa Mesa

Chocolatier Amy Jo (Valenza) Pedone will present two holiday pop-up shops this week in Costa Mesa featuring the 2014 Valenza Chocolatier Holiday Collection.

The selection of locally handmade Italian chocolates will be sold from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at The Hood Kitchen Space + Market, 350 Clinton St., and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Local Fare in OC Mix, 3313 Hyland Ave. The collection includes truffles, bonbons, hazelnut chocolate, a bar medley and a box of chewy caramel with pecans and dark chocolate.

McShane Construction hires regional VP

McShane Construction Co. announced that Jonathan Bagnall has joined the firm as vice president of the Southern California regional office in Irvine.

With more than 13 years of construction industry experience, Bagnall will support the operations of the firm’s projects and client base in California and the Western region. He also will contribute business development expertise across the firm’s industrial, office, healthcare and multifamily market areas, according to a news release.

McShane Construction was established in 1984 and is headquartered in Rosemont, Ill., with regional offices in Irvine, Phoenix and Auburn, Ala.
