A 47-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car outside Irvine’s Arnold O. Beckman High School on Wednesday morning. After the impact, the car continued through a chain-link fence and ended up on school property.

No students were involved, said Farrah Emami, spokeswoman for the Irvine Police Department.

Police believe the woman, identified as Oanh Tran, was on a sidewalk at the intersection of Bryan Avenue and Rubicon when she was hit about 11 a.m., Emami said.

Police said Tran was an Irvine resident, but the Orange County coroner’s office said she lived in Costa Mesa. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Irvine man driving the car was found semiconscious 15 to 20 feet from the vehicle, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi. The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The car, a Kia sedan, came to rest on a hill next to the school’s football field.

The Irvine Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the cause of the crash, authorities said.

As part of the investigation, police closed Bryan Avenue between Culver Drive and El Camino Real North.
