The Newport-Mesa Unified School District board of trustees elected officers and swore in new members Tuesday night.

The seven member body voted Martha Fluor president. Judy Franco was elected vice president and Walt Davenport was voted clerk.

Trustees act as the governing body for the district, which enrolls 22,138 students in 32 schools in Costa Mesa and Newport Beach.

Early that day, Marian Bergeson, the former state Secretary of Education, administered the oath of office to Davenport, who was reelected; Karen Yelsey, who ran unopposed and therefore reclaimed her seat; Vicki Snell, who was elected after being appointed to the seat earlier this year following trustee David Brooks’ departure; and Charlene Metoyer, elected to fill the seat vacated by Katrina Foley.

Foley was elected in November to the Costa Mesa City Council, where she had previously served from 2004 to 2010 before running for a seat on the school board.
