Volunteers get reading at Wilson Elementary

Share

Volunteers David Bray of Houston and Shannon Hubbard of Seattle, both with Shell Oil Products US, took turns reading “Reach out and Give” to a classroom of first-graders Friday at Wilson Elementary School in Costa Mesa.

The first-graders were among 1,350 students from low-income elementary schools across the county who participated in OneOC’s Spirit of Giving Day of Service, an event that seeks to inspire a love of reading by matching children in low-income neighborhoods with volunteers from various businesses. Afterwards, students were given a copy of the book “The Berenstain Bears: Lend a Helping Hand.”
