Police: Man shoots, kills self on Costa Mesa road

A man shot and killed himself inside a car over the weekend at a Costa Mesa intersection, police said Monday.

Costa Mesa officers received a call about a shooting at about 1:20 p.m. Saturday and found the man’s car stopped on Harbor Boulevard at Law Court, just south of Sunflower Avenue.

The man had shot himself in the head with a handgun, authorities said.

Paramedics took the man to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was pronounced dead at 2:10 p.m.

The Orange County coroner’s office identified him as a 55-year-old Santa Ana resident.
