Biz News: Torelli Realty plans annual snow day next week

Torelli Realty plans to re-create its annual “Snow Land” from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 13 at Balearic Park, 1975 Balearic Drive, Costa Mesa.

The popular event, which benefits local schools, promises 40 tons of “fresh snow, an array of activities, games and photo opportunities ...”

There will be horses, wagon rides, games, cookie decorating, face-painting and other activities. A live DJ will perform. Santa Claus and the so-called Snow Sisters, Anna and Elsa, will pose for photos.

Hoag recognized for working with disabled

The Regional Center of Orange County has honored Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian “for its dedication and ongoing commitment in support of people with developmental disabilities,” according to a news release.

Hoag employees were given a certificate of appreciation for employing those who suffer from developmental disabilities in its food and nutrition departments, according to the release.

The Regional Center of Orange County assists some 17,00 people with developmental disabilities, including autism, epilepsy and cerebral palsy, and their families.

Westin begins major renovation

The Westin South Coast Plaza hotel in Costa Mesa recently began a $20-million renovation project, according to a news release.

The 393-room hotel plans to put new carpeting and wall finishes in its rooms, as well as larger flat-screen TVs and new “Westin Heavenly” beds. In addition, all the bathrooms will be completely redone and upgraded.

The renovations are scheduled to be completed in April.

In 2016, another $10 million is planned to go toward renovating the Westin’s meeting spaces.

The Westin South Coast Plaza has an annual occupancy rate of more than 80% and hosts an average of 1,250 guests weekly.

Hotel Irvine reopens

Hotel Irvine has reopened at 17900 Jamboree Road after an extensive renovation, according to a news release.

The hotel operated by the Newport Beach-based Irvine Co. now has a “sleek and vibrant modern look, a reinvented personality and service experience, unique and compelling new value propositions, unsurpassed technological enhancements, as well as an interactive social hub and authentic collection of independently minding culinary offerings for locals and guests alike.”

The location near John Wayne Airport has 520 guest rooms, as well as dining and shopping options. The Irvine Co. has two other hotel properties: Pelican Hill Resort and the Island Hotel, both in Newport Beach.

Magazine ranks Fisher & Phillips high

Fisher & Phillips LLP was named the 2015 “Law Firm of the Year” for labor and employment litigation by U.S. News’ Best Lawyers edition, according to a news release.

The Irvine branch of the nationwide firm was one of 21 firms in the nation to receive a “Metropolitan Tier 1 Ranking” for employment and labor law.
