Around Town: Abandoned vessels to be auctioned in Newport

Vessels abandoned in Newport Beach will be auctioned Friday at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Harbor Patrol office at 1901 Bayside Drive.

Bidders can view the vessels between 8 and 9 a.m.

Minimum bids will vary depending on the craft. The auction is cash only.

Vessels up for auction include kayaks, canoes, dinghies, lidos, a whaler and a Bayliner Capri, among others. For a complete list, visit the city website, https://www.newportbeachca.gov.

Breakfast with Santa at Newport Coast

Guests can have breakfast with Santa Claus from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Newport Coast Community Center, 6401 San Joaquin Hills Road.

Breakfast is $15 per person or free for children younger than 2.

Volunteers help food pantry for Thanksgiving

Workers from an Irvine-based marketing company volunteered last week at Share Our Selves in Costa Mesa.

Six employees of eGumball Inc. worked at the nonprofit’s food pantry Nov. 25, sorting food bags in time for Thanksgiving.

“Not only was the cause honorable, but the team had a fantastic time working and meeting with other community volunteers,” company officials said in a news release.

Shop for Schools will benefit Newport Harbor High

Shop and raise money Saturday for Newport Harbor High School as part of the Shopping Works Wonders event at Bloomingdale’s at Fashion Island in Newport Beach. Ten percent of purchases at participating stores will be donated to the Newport Harbor Educational Foundation for academic programs.

Shoppers can participate by presenting store receipts at the redemption desk on Level 1, at customer service on Level 3 or in the Home Store. Event activities include an 11 a.m. performance by the Newport Harbor High School orchestra and a 2 p.m. student and teacher fashion show. Last year, the event raised $6,000, according to organizers.

Law firm is title sponsor for O.C. MS walk

Irvine-based Fish & Tsang, an intellectual-property law firm that works with inventors in industries including health and medical, engineering and biotechnology, will be the title sponsor of Walk MS Orange County on April 11 at UC Irvine.

It is the first time an Orange County-based business has held the title sponsorship for the fundraising walk to help fight multiple sclerosis, according to a news release.
