Around Town: Church to hold Thanksgiving dinner for community

Mariners Church of Irvine will host a free community Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday at the church’s community center, 5001 Newport Coast Drive.

Activities will include children’s crafts, football watching and the opportunity for family photos. Volunteers are sought to help serve.

Gingerbread lighthouse at Island Hotel

The Island Hotel in Newport Beach will light up its holiday gingerbread lighthouse at noon Sunday. The confection, created by pastry chef Andy de la Cruz and other members of the culinary team, will decorate the lobby throughout the holidays.

Wild Goose raises $22,000 for cancer nonprofit

Costa Mesa’s Wild Goose Tavern reported raising $22,110 for the Newport Beach-based cancer charity We Are Ocean during Wild Goose’s second anniversary party Nov. 9.

All proceeds from a silent auction and raffle and 20% of overall sales during the event will help fund Catalina Island recovery camps for cancer patients and survivors, according to a news release.
