Newport’s Tip-A-Cop serves up over $10,000 for Special Olympics

The Newport Beach Police Department collected $10,772 for Special Olympics Southern California during the annual Tip-A-Cop fundraiser Monday evening.

Officers stood in as servers and hosts for about four hours at Javier’s restaurant in Newport Beach and collected tips that will help fund Special Olympics activities in Orange County.

In July, Los Angeles will host the Special Olympics World Games, where 7,000 disabled athletes will compete.

Newport Beach plans to be a host town before the 2015 Games by welcoming some of the athletes from 177 countries.
