Police are looking for a man who may have been masturbating near the tennis courts at Corona del Mar High School, according to law enforcement and school officials.

About 3 p.m. Friday, tennis coach Brian Ricker noticed a man between a fence and trailer outside the courts during the girls’ team practice.

“He had his T-shirt pulled out and down with one hand and was taking part in a very inappropriate activity with the other hand,” Ricker wrote in an email to parents of players on the tennis team.

Ricker hit a tennis ball into the fence to get the man’s attention and then had a short conversation with him, the coach wrote.

The man revealed that he was 31 before he began to leave and then run when Ricker asked students for a phone, according to the coach’s email.

Another coach chased the man and took down a license plate number as he drove quickly out of the parking lot, Ricker wrote.

Newport Beach police are investigating the incident as a case of indecent exposure.

The man they’re searching for is white and about 5-feet, 9-inches tall, police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said. She added that he weighs 160 pounds and was wearing a blue hat, white T-shirt and possibly dark-colored shorts.

“At this time, this appears to be an isolated incident with no similar instances reported,” Manzella said.

School officials sent out an email Tuesday informing all CdM parents.

“School administration and coaches are aware of the incident, and radios have been issued to the tennis coaches for immediate access,” the email said.
