Police searching for Costa Mesa robbery suspect

Police are searching for a man they suspect robbed a sandwich shop and attempted to rob a salon at gunpoint in Costa Mesa on Thursday evening, authorities said.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m., the owner of the Lovely Lashes salon at 115 Broadway reported that a man wearing a light-colored baseball cap and dark sunglasses entered the salon, pointed a handgun at her and demanded cash.

When the owner did not immediately provide the money, the suspect fled on foot heading northbound, police said.

Shortly before 6 p.m., officers responded to an armed robbery at the Subway sandwich restaurant at 600 W. 19th St.

The store cashier said that a man wearing a gray baseball cap and yellow and blue light-colored short-sleeved shirt, entered the restaurant, pointed a gun at her and demanded cash. The cashier gave the suspect money, and he fled on foot, police said.

Officers responded and searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. Anyone with information can contact Sgt. Stephanie Selinske at (714) 754-4933.
