Conservative PAC to hold first meeting

A new political action committee aimed at uniting conservatives across Orange County will host its first public event in Newport Beach on Friday night to introduce a conservative candidate for governor.

UniteOC, created by Newport Mesa Tea Party Patriots founder Tom Pollitt, will host Assemblyman Tim Donnelly (R-Twin Peaks) at the Newport Beach Tennis Club.

“It’s not that we’re endorsing Tim Donnelly,” Pollitt said. “It’s that we want to inform the people that there appears to be a conservative out there who appears to be doing a lot of the right things.”

UniteOC, a political nonprofit that started in January, has been holding training sessions to educate conservative candidates on the Constitution and public speaking, Pollitt said.

Pollitt sees the group as an overarching networking organization that he hopes can bring together conservative factions throughout the county under one banner.

“As I like to say when I present this to the different conservative organizations, the democrats — the blacks, the Hispanics, the gays, the labor unions and the environmentalists — who really don’t have a lot in common and don’t like each other in a lot of cases, all come together for one common cause.”

Eventually, Pollitt hopes the PAC can back state and local candidates who prove their metal and go through UniteOC’s training process.

The Donnelly event runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at 2601 Eastbluff Drive in Newport Beach.

Tickets cost $35. To RSVP, call 714-850-9829.
