Trailer fire spreads to Costa Mesa home

About 30 firefighters doused a blaze that broke out in a trailer Tuesday and spread to a nearby home in the 2600 block of Newport Boulevard in Costa Mesa.

The flames started in the 30-foot travel trailer around 2:30 p.m., sending a column of smoke into the air, according to a news release from the Costa Mesa Fire Department.

Crews were on scene within five minutes and discovered the flames had spread to the living room and bedroom of a one-story house next to where the trailer was parked, fire officials said.

Firefighter stopped the flames from spreading further into the home and had the blaze under control within 30 minutes, according to the news release.

Fire officials estimated the blaze caused about $15,000 to the home and about $10,000 of damage to the trailer and other property.

There were no injuries reported.

Investigators are working to determine what sparked the fire inside the trailer, according to the CMFD.
