I.D. still a mystery of young man whose body washed ashore on Balboa Peninsula

Authorities are still trying to identify the body of a man pulled from the ocean in Newport Beach, coroner’s officials said Monday.

The body, which appears to be a young male in his late teens or early 20s, was found ashore at 32nd Street on the Balboa Peninsula at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. He appeared to be clothed in beach attire, officials said.

The man had brown eyes, wavy long black hair, a thin build and was approximately 5-feet-8-inches tall, officials said.

Officials suspect that the man drowned, but the case is still under investigation.

The Orange County Coroner’s Office is running fingerprints against a missing-persons database in an attempt to make an identification, but hasn’t come across a match, said Supervising Deputy Coroner Allison O’Neal.

“We are stumped by him and his showing up there,” she said.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Orange County Coroner at (714) 647-7400 or the Newport Beach Police Department at (949) 644-3681.
