Grand opening set for Island Hotel gourmet collection

The Island Hotel in Newport Beach will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. Wednesday to introduce its gourmet Market Place in the hotel’s renovated lobby.

Tastes of some of the house specialties at the Market Place will be offered, along with a preview of locally produced products available there.

The Market Place will feature pastries and other sweets, sandwiches, salads, sushi, fresh fruit and vegetables, wines, craft beers and more.

First Great Park neighborhood wins awards

Pavilion Park, the first of Irvine’s Great Park Neighborhoods, won the title of Master Planned Community of the Year at the 2014 SoCal Awards, presented by the Greater Sales & Marketing Council and Building Industry Assn. of Southern California. The development also won eight marketing awards.

“We are glad that the attention to detail and all the special elements we incorporated into the community are appreciated by our peers and by the families who have chosen to make Pavilion Park their home,” Emile Haddad, president and chief executive of developer FivePoint Communities, said in a statement.

More than 600 of Pavilion Park’s 726 homes sold in one year, according to FivePoint.

Two restaurants coming to Irvine center

Irvine’s University Center will get two new dining options with the additions of Mendocino Farms and Eureka.

Mendocino Farms, a Los Angeles-based artisanal sandwich shop, is scheduled to open at the commercial center in early to mid-2015. Eureka, opening this fall, specializes in American cuisine.

University Center is in the 4100 and 4200 blocks of Campus Drive.

Restaurant’s drink sales will help fight breast cancer

Sol Cocina, a Mexican restaurant at 251 E. Coast Hwy. in Newport Beach, will donate all proceeds this month from its $10 “Ta-Ta Tini” cocktail to the breast health program of Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties.

Costa Mesa gets new dental office

A new dentist office in Costa Mesa recently held its grand opening.

Advanced Dental Care, 3303 Bristol St., is headed by Dr. Jeremy Jorgenson. The Minnesota native attended the University of Wisconsin and received his doctor of dental surgery degree from USC.

Jorgenson, a member of the American Dental Assn., has made several trips overseas to provide dental services.
