History the focus of weekend event

The Costa Mesa Historical Society is hosting an event Sunday that will bring local history to life, according to a flier.

The festivities take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the Diego Sepúlveda Adobe in Estancia Park, 1900 Adams Ave.

Attendees will learn how the early residents of the Costa Mesa area lived. Crafts, music and exhibits will be part of the fun. The event is free and there will be food for sale.

Jacque Nunez, a descendant of the Acjachemen Nation, will make a presentation at 1 p.m. A plaque dedication ceremony in memory of Helen C. Smith, an early historical society member and contributor, takes place at 2 p.m.

At 3 p.m. is the awards ceremony for the city’s Scarecrow Festival, which takes place Saturday and Sunday in Fairview Park.

The adobe, built around 1820, is a California Historical Landmark.
