Vanguard opens its new ‘front door’

Vanguard University held a grand opening for its newly remodeled Scott Academic Center Saturday morning.

The renovations and expansion of the building helped create a “front door” to the Costa Mesa campus, a representative said.

The original building opened in 1976. It was named after a previous Vanguard president, professor, dean and librarian, John B. Scott.

Remodeling work to the center includes a 16,135-square-foot addition that consists of a three-story education wing.

The recent expansion also provides space for the school’s Global Center for Women and Justice, Veterans Resource Center, Diversity and Inclusion Department, a nursing stimulation lab for the Nursing Program, 10 new classrooms and a tall bell tower.

The remodeling of the building was completed with help from community donations totaling $7 million, according to a news release.

Vanguard, which was founded in 1920, serves around 2,000 students. The school hopes that the Scott Academic Center’s facilities will meet the needs of its student population, which is projected to grow over the next decade.
