Soccerfest returns to Costa Mesa

Organizers for one of Costa Mesa’s youth soccer organizations are reviving a festival this weekend that they hope will become an annual tradition

AYSO Region 120’s event, dubbed “Soccerfest,” will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Jack R. Hammett Sports Complex on Fairview Road.

“This is like a mini carnival for our region,” said Jasmina Muller, Soccerfest’s coordinator, adding that AYSO hasn’t hosted such a festival in about a decade.

It will feature a bounce house, laser tag, hamster balls, mazes, a rock climbing wall, snack bar, raffles and items for sale.

Soccerfest will raise money for Region 120 and its competitive travel team, the Gladiators.

Muller said the event is in conjunction with team picture day. After the kids are finished with pictures, they can partake in all the activities.

Unlike the regular competitive game days, Soccerfest will be “more of a day for fun for all the kids to interact with all the other kids from the region,” Muller said. “They’ll always remember this experience.”

Up to 30 volunteers are staffing the event, which organizers expect will draw as many as 300 AYSO participants, ages 4 to 18, and their families.
