Costa Mesa police arrested a homeless man on suspicion of breaking into a truck after a neighbor alerted them to a burglary in progress early Monday, according to authorities.

A resident in the 2600 block of Orange Avenue who was awake at about 2:30 a.m. saw a man he didn’t know in a neighbor’s truck outside, Costa Mesa police Sgt. Matt Selinske said.

The resident called the neighbor to warn him and then called police with a description of the man, Selinske said.

An officer who was down the street ran after a man who fit the description, according to police.

“The [suspect] was unable to get up over a fence and he fell back down and was taken into custody,” Selinske said.

When police searched the suspect, they found tools and change taken from the truck along with methamphetamine and syringes, Selinske said.

David Bradley Yochem, 36, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle burglary and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, Selinske said.
