Irvine Valley College is in the top 20% of schools nationwide for delivering the best experience for military students, according to results from a recent survey.

The 1,868 colleges, universities and trade schools on the 2014 Military Friendly Schools list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.

The schools on the list have world-class programs and policies for student support, academic accreditation, credit policies and other services to assist those who served, according to a news release.

“As a Vietnam veteran and one who sought her educational opportunities on the GI Bill, I am so pleased to see the great opportunities that are available for our students today,” Linda Fontanilla, IVC vice president of student services, wrote in the release. “I highly encourage all veterans to take advantage of these benefits so that they are able to quickly transition into civilian lifestyle.”

IVC’s ranking comes on the heels of the opening of the college’s Wells Fargo Veterans Services Center on Aug. 30. The new center will support active service members, veterans and military dependents in their educational goals.

IVC and its sister college, Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, also partnered with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs this month to provide on-campus support services to help veterans succeed in college and find work.
