Political Landscape: Endorsements for O.C. Water District race

About 120 Duffy electric boat owners took to Newport Harbor on Saturday in a show of support for company founder Marshall "Duffy" Duffield's campaign for Newport Beach City Council. The parade was followed by a barbecue at the Duffy boat rental facility that raised $20,000 for Duffy's election effort, according to a news release.

Newport Beach City Council member Leslie Daigle has announced new endorsements in her campaign for the Orange County Water District board of directors.

The California Women’s Leadership Assn. and the Orange County Taxpayers Assn. gave their support, Daigle wrote in an email.

Daigle is facing incumbent Steve Sheldon for the Division 5 seat, which includes parts of Newport Beach and Irvine.

Sheldon’s endorsements include United Taxpayers of Orange County, state Sen. Mimi Walters and Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce President Steve Rosansky, as well as several local council members and all five members of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, Sheldon wrote in an email.

Shawn Dewane, who is running for the District 7 seat, has received endorsements from the Orange County Taxpayers Assn., Republican Party of Orange County, the Orange County Business Council and the Costa Mesa Republican Assembly.

The Republican Party of Orange County has endorsed candidates in the Newport Beach and Costa Mesa city council races.

In Newport Beach, Diane Dixon (District 1), Marshall “Duffy” Duffield (District 3), Kevin Muldoon (District 4) and Scott Peotter (District 6) received endorsements, according to the organization’s website.

In Costa Mesa, Lee Ramos and Jim Righeimer received endorsements, the site said.

The party also endorsed Measure Y, a proposed amendment to Newport Beach land-use regulations, and Measure O, the proposed Costa Mesa charter.
