Faulty propane tank suspected in residential fire
Costa Mesa fire officials suspect that a malfunctioning propane tank caused a fire at a home on Gannet Drive on Tuesday evening.
Firefighters were initially called to the 2700 block of Gannet Drive at 6:42 p.m. to put out a barbecue fire.
When fire crews arrived, they saw smoke coming from the one-story home’s garage. Firefighters fought the blaze inside and outside of the garage, which prevented the flames from spreading to the rest of the house, officials with the Costa Mesa Fire Department said.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze within 20 minutes. No injuries were reported.
Officials estimate that the fire caused $20,000 worth of damage to the structure and $5,000 to the contents.
