Three people, including a young boy, were injured Monday night when their car was struck by two vehicles apparently street racing in Costa Mesa, according to police.

Witnesses saw a Mercedes-Benz SUV and a silver pickup traveling at about 80 mph north on Placentia Avenue about 10:30 p.m., police said.

Both vehicles ran a red light at the intersection with Wilson Street and crashed into a white sedan traveling east, police said.

Two adults and a boy in the sedan were injured. Police said the boy, thought to be about 10 years old, apparently wasn’t wearing a seat belt and suffered head trauma. The injury probably isn’t life-threatening, police said.

The boy and one of the adults were taken to a hospital.

The pickup involved in the crash was last seen headed north on Placentia, authorities said.

The Mercedes crashed through a fence and stopped after hitting a tree and a house, police said. No one in the Mercedes was injured, according to police. The house sustained minor damage.

Police said no arrests were made. Drugs and alcohol probably were not factors in the crash, police said.
