A man was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk after his car struck two pedestrians in what police described as a hit-and-run early Saturday in Newport Beach.

The suspect, identified as Giuliano Jesus Rodriguez, 22, of Riverside, was heading north on Newport Boulevard at about 1:50 a.m. when his Honda Accord hit the male pedestrians at 23rd Street, according to Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella. The two suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening, Manzella said.

Witnesses reported the incident, and about a half an hour later, officers saw Rodriguez’s car on 19th Street near the 55 Freeway and stopped and arrested him, Manzella said. Rodriguez’s blood-alcohol level was above the state legal limit of 0.08%, Manzella said.
