Ceremony Wednesday for restored Balboa ferry entrance sign

Share

A ribbon cutting for a refurbished welcome sign at the ferry entrance on the Balboa Peninsula is planned for Wednesday.

The sign was originally built in 1933 by Roland Vallely, who ran a boat rental business next to the ferry, according to a news release.

It had been updated once since, in 1969. But as the city focuses on revitalization in the Balboa Village area, community members and local businesses contributed $5,000 to restore the iconic marker again.

The ceremony is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the ferry entrance at the corner of Palm Street and the bayfront boardwalk.
